One day you might have an idea to go backpacking. It is certainly one way to get rid of the stress you deal with everyday; a weekend to unwind and not think of your problems. Backpacking is an easy way to go around, be it for a hike or a quick tour of a city you want to visit.

Should you decide to go on a backpacking trip your main concern is fitting everything into your backpack. And getting all of the things you need into one bag that you carry on your back may not be enough. That is why you should only carry the things that you really must bring.

Here are the things you need to bring to you during your backpacking trip:

1.Backpack – Of course you will need your bag. But it is not just any backpack. Make sure you have a sturdy bag that can handle all the things you will stuff in it and comfortable enough that it will not be a problem to carry.

2.Sleeping bag – Whether you will be going outdoors or indoors, a sleeping bag is a must bring on any backpacking trip. The temperature can drop during the evening and having a warm sleeping bag can make the difference of a good or bad night’s sleep.

3.Water bottles – Most backpacks have built-in bladders now where you can sip through a tube and have a drink. This is handy when you are out hiking. But, it is always good to carry extra water bottles, just in case.

4.Security Essentials – Bring locks for your bag to keep everything safe and secure. This is important when you travel out of the country where you need to bring your travel documents.

5.Clothes – You will need a fresh set of clothes to change into every now and then. Make sure your clothes are lightweight and comfortable to wear. Shorts and pants with lots of pockets can also come in handy during your trip. Also, do not forget to bring lightweight rain gear to keep you dry whenever you travel and rain comes unexpectedly.

6.Hygiene Kit – It is important that you are clean and fresh throughout your trip. If you go hiking outdoors, then it may be hard to look for places where you can take a bath to freshen up so having items like antibacterial wipes and hand gel to keep yourself clean all the time. Also you should bring a first aid kit complete with basic medication if any injuries should occur.

7.Walking Cane – Who said walking canes or walking sticks are for people with weak knees only? If you are hiking a walking cane or staff can be your best friend as it can give you extra stability whenever you need it. Even if you are not hiking but walking all the time with a heavy backpack on your back, a walking cane can be of help. There are collapsible ones that are available and those can easily fit your backpack.

8.Other Items – These can be your cameras, should you want to document your trip. Or sunglasses for extra eye protection. It is also difficult to part with your mobile phone, so be prepared and bring charges to keep it charged up throughout your trip.
